Whether it was planned or by pure coincidence, the stars’ beauty looks at the 2023 SAG Awards largely took some cues from the past. Cases in point: “White Lotus” star Aubrey Plaza wore ’70s-inspired voluminous curls, and  “Euphoria” lead Zendaya sported some lashes that were de rigueur à la the 1960s. This is your sign to take some beauty inspiration from the past to plan your looks for the future. Keep reading to find out how some of the attendees’ show-stopping hair and makeup looks came to fruition.

1. Jennifer Coolidge’s hairstyling quartet

Jennifer Lopez's

“White Lotus” star Jennifer Coolidge wore a “retro bombshell” hairstyle to the 29th annual SAG Awards. Hairstylist Sami Knight was behind the voluminous look, which was created using a combination of products from Living Proof. “I really wanted Jen to be the ultimate bombshell today,” Knight said in a statement. “This look is all about big volume and soft waves.”

Coolidge’s hair was prepped using the Full Thickening Mousse. Knight worked the product into the hair by putting it on his brush and dispersing it throughout the hair “for perfectly even distribution.” Before creating Coolidge’s sleek curls with a curling iron, Knight sprayed her hair with the Flex Hairspray for heat protection and to keep the style intact. After the hair was curled, Knight spritzed some of the Dry Volume and Texture Spray for extra hold. For good measure (and some shine), he finished off the look with a spray of the Control Hairspray.

2. Jessica Chastain’s blush

Jessica Chastain's rosy glow was created using makeup products from Charlotte Tilbury.

To complement her fuchsia Gucci gown, “George and Tammy” star Jessica Chastain went with a rosy-toned makeup look. Chastain’s makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle, teamed up with makeup brand Charlotte Tilbury for the night. The look featured one of the brand’s newest releases: the Matte Beauty Blush Wand in “Pillow Talk” (nude-pink), a liquid blush that claims to provide “medium buildable coverage” while giving skin a blurred finish. “Pillow Talk” is joined by three other matte shades, which include “Pink Pop” (pink), “Peach Pop” (nude-peach) and “Dream Pop” (cherry-pink).

3. Julia Garner’s hair oil

Julia Garner's blunt bob was perfected with the help of a hair oil from Fable & Mane.

“Ozark” and “Inventing Anna” lead Julia Garner arrived at last night’s awards wearing a blunt bob. Hairstylist Bobby Eliot prepped and perfected the look with the newly-launched Fable & Mane MahaMane Smooth & Shine Hair Oil, a styling product that aims to nix frizz and safeguard strands from heat. Eliot explained in a statement that he used the oil after washing Garner’s hair. To finish the look, he took “a pea-size amount” of the product to give Garner’s strands “a high-gloss finish” and to tame flyaways.

4. Zendaya’s eye makeup trio

Zendaya's pastel-toned eyeshadow look was realized using products from Lancôme.

“Euphoria” star and Lancôme ambassadress Zendaya opted for a monochromatic eye makeup look to pair with her Valentino Haute Couture rose gown. Makeup artist Raoúl Alejandre was responsible for the makeup and shared in a statement that the look’s “iridescent and satin pastel tones” were inspired by the gown’s silk roses.

To match her eyes to her dress, Alejandre used the Lancôme Color Design Eyeshadows in “Pink Pearls” (ballet pink) and “Filigree” (shimmering gold). He completed the look with a “mod spiky top and bottom lash” using the brand’s Lash Idôle Mascara, a volumizing mascara that aims to create “fanned-out volume without clumps.”

5. Aubrey Plaza’s hairstyling duo

Aubrey Plaza's '70s-inspired bob was achieved using products from Sol de Janeiro.

Jennifer Coolidge’s SAG Awards ‘do wasn’t the only look that referenced the past—fellow “White Lotus” star Aubrey Plaza went with ’70s-inspired strands as well. “While chatting with [Plaza], we both wanted to lean into a ’70s vibe with lots of movement and shine in the hair,” her hairstylist Mark Townsend explained via press release.

Townsend partnered with Brazilian-inspired beauty brand, Sol de Janeiro, to create Plaza’s look for the occasion. He started off by using the Brazilian Joia Milky Leave-In Conditioner after washing Plaza’s hair “to provide weightless hydration and heat protection before blow drying.” For the curls, Townsend placed her hair in some hot rollers and took them out once they cooled down. After unfurling Plaza’s strands from the rollers, he used some drops of the Brazilian Glossy Nourishing Hair Oil for some added sheen and frizz protection.
